Currently, the Bali Provincial Government is in talks to provide insurance policies for foreign tourists coming to Bali, so that they will be covered in the event of illness, accident or death. Today the scheme is still being discussed, and in final stages.

We are targeting it to be completed this year, said Bali Governor I Made Mangku Pastika. The Govenor said to obtain a policy tourists will have to pay a nominal fee upon entry to Bali. He went on to say ,when we implemented the visa on arrival (VoA) it was not easy and we had to draft up new laws to govern and no doubt we will have to do something similar  for this insurance payment. The Governor said he plans to take that step and make sure it is indeed possible. Funds collected from this fee will then be used to provide medical assistance to those who need it during their vacation, but also some of the money will be allocated towards the protection of cultural heritage and the environment of Bali. This means all of the funds do not go to the government but rather  reserved for visitors who have an accident, illness, or die. When there is a death, sometimes there is a lot of confusion about what to do with the body,” stated Pastika.
