Bali governor Made Mangku Pastika predicts tourism figures for Bali will increase by 5 million foreign tourists and up to 10 million domestic visitors by 2015. On Monday this week Mr. Pastika said that he was “optimistic” about reaching the target of 5 million foreign tourists, because the infrastructure for tourism in Bali such as roads and hotels is becoming better and general quality is improving. Domestically, several provinces in Indonesia are planning to feature Bali as a tourism promotion, not to mention that in 2013 Bali will host the Miss World pageant and the highly anticipated Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. According to Mr. Pastika, this year the number of tourist arrivals to Bali could reach 3 million. Based on data from the Bali Tourism Agency, tourist arrivals to Bali between January and May this year reached more than 1.1 million tourists, an increase of 9.7% over the same period last year.
