The Bali Governor, held talks yesterday with Bali’s chief of police in order to allay fears of attacks on tourists.

“Do not worry about coming to Bali, the Govenor said. We are ready to assist, serve and provide security,” he told media in Denpasar before going on to say “We will fight against evil.”

The Governor, who is up for re-election on May 15, reminded authorities that the important thing is to pre-empt and prevent attacks like these occurring. In his statement, he said that he recognises privacy is important in villas but security needs to be adequate.

The Govenor also pointed out that if accommodation is far away and in a quiet area, it can put people in harms way. Privacy is important but security is vital. He advised villa owners to work with the local community to increase security, so that similar cases do not occur.

Meanwhile, the Govenor has urged the police to capture the perpetrator of the crime against a Perth woman last Saturday night, where she was robbed and raped at knifepoint in a luxury villa. Her family were also staying in the villa but were not aware of the break in or the assault.

The woman was taken to Sanglah hospital where she was treated and examined. The family left Sunday, cutting their holiday short by one day.
