Mr. Bob Carr, Australia’s Foreign Minister, said in light of the recent death of a young Australian teenager on one of the Gili islands, was cause for a representation to seriously address this issue with the Indonesian government regarding their current beverage distribution arrangements in tourist areas.

The young man aged 19 died from methanol poisoning after ordering a mixed alcoholic drink on New Years Eve.

Mr Carr said we cannot force Indonesia to follow Australian alcohol laws but we can make representations to protect travellers from these dangers.
