The aftermath of the recent Bali earthquake has left at least 60 people hospitalised with various degrees of injury but fortunately, there have been no reports of any fatalities. The quake measured 6.8 on the Richter scale, which was followed by 10 subsequent aftershocks. The last aftershock was the second largest tremor after the initial quake, with a strength of 5.8. Many casualties were treated at Sangiah Central Hospital with most victims sustaining cuts and bruises from falling debris. Many of the victims were students of SMKN 2 in Sidakarya, Denpasar. Some were allowed to go home after minor treatment but according to the hospital spokesman seven were still in intensive care. Approximately nineteen buildings were significantly damaged by the quake including eight school buildings, the worst being SMKN 2 Denpasar. Carrefour supermarket was also reported to be severely damaged and has been closed to the public until further notice.
